Benefits of Group Therapy
Sitting in a room with complete strangers talking about your life, your challenges, and your victories feels pretty counterintuitive, right? I totally get it. As a society we aren’t too keen on being vulnerable and talking about the things we are going through in front of many people. A lot of people keep this close to themselves and might share it with a few people in their lives. Joining a therapy group has a lot of benefits though.
Some of these include:
Feeling less alone
Feeling like someone else ‘get’s it’
Being able to share your experience to help someone else through a tough time
Connecting with others who don’t have any judgments or influence in your family or the people you spend a majority of your time with
Feeling seen and heard and understood
There are plenty of different groups that help a bunch of different people and a cover a wide range of treatment topics including: self-esteem, coping skills, suicidal thoughts, addiction, codependency, self-sabotage, challenges with new adjustments, grief/loss, divorce, etc.
The key here is to think about what it is that you need and how you can feel most supported. Stepping out of your comfort zone might just lead to the end result you are seeking: connection and understanding.
